DIY Grapevine and Burlap Wreath

I have been admiring all the wreaths of fresh greenery that are everywhere you go. Some are big, some are small, but that little bit of green just makes such a difference on the exterior of a house. It really makes things look properly "dressed" for the holidays.

I didn't want to buy a bunch of wreaths, when we already had some at home.

However, this collection of thrift store wreaths was less than desirable.  Determined to make them work, the first thing I did was to strip off all the embellishments. They just weren't my style.

Underneath all that stuff, they were plain grapevine wreaths. Who knew? I gathered a few supplies like some fresh greenery and a few silver Dusty Miller branches from the garden, a roll of burlap, some picture wire (or floral wire, I just didn't have any), and a wire cutter.

I arranged the greenery from the front side, and then turned it over to wrap the picture wire around the wreath, and anchored it on the back side.

Then I turned it over again and added some of these Dusty Miller branches in between the green ones. Normally at this time of year we have snow, and all the annuals are long gone. I hadn't pulled these plants out because we had a rather warm fall season, and they still looked pretty good. I am glad I didn't dispose of them. I love their fuzzy silver color, and they were easy to cut and stick in among the other greens. They kind of remind me of reindeer horns.

After the branches were wired on it was time for the bow.

I tied a loose bow out of burlap and wired it onto the front of the wreath.

I used an invisible suction cup to hang the wreath on the glass window. My goal is to make one for each window of the front of the house.

They will look great on each of the windows, no one will know that they came from the thrift store or that they are not the same size. Living on the Cheap!
