How many cups of coffee do you drink a day? I rarely drink more than two, but I have been trying to cut back a bit during my 31 Days of Cleansing. I have been looking for ways to substitute something else for coffee, or at least not crave it as much. I realize this is very difficult to do, however I must say that since I began Cleansing, the coffee just doesn't taste as good as it did before. Why is that?
One of the reasons I am addicted to coffee is because it's a hot liquid. On cold mornings, I just can't wait to get up and make something hot to drink. Hot lemon water is nothing new to many people, but as many times as I have tried it, it just doesn't really appeal to me. That is, until I tried adding a dash or two of Cayenne pepper to the water. That makes all the difference for me.
Recommended by numerous authors, doctors and nutritionists, the first thing you should drink upon rising each day is a glass of water with the juice of a lemon squeezed into it. Taken on an empty stomach, this increases production of gestational juices allowing your body to make the most of your food every day. It also has the added benefit of keeping your system in that alkaline state where colds, viruses and other diseases cannot survive.
Here in Wisconsin, fresh lemons are at premium prices. Use fresh when you can, but if you can't bottled lemon juice is an acceptable substitute. Start with a quarter or a half of a lemon (or a teaspoon or tablespoon of bottled juice) until you can tolerate more, it's very powerful stuff. I sprinkle mine heavily with Cayenne, which adds the heat that I am looking for. Oddly enough, it doesn't taste spicy at all, but makes my whole body feel warm and toasty. Cayenne is also known for it's wonderful energy boosting properties. This combination has been known to jump start your metabolism and allow you to loose weight. Sounds good to me!

Hi Jessica! This post is JUST what I need to know. I love to have coffee in the morning too, but, like you, I think it is more of a habit/want to have something hot first thing. I did not know that about cayenne pepper...I have just got to try this. Hey, I am going to follow you on your cleanse...I know I need more advice from you. I saw your post over at "Cowgirl Up".
