Here we are on Day 2 of my linking project! Today's inspiration is the suitcase made into an end table. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!
I am finally finishing my son's bedroom. It has taken me much longer than I thought. I was on the hunt for just a few perfect last minute things, like curtains, a chair and a bedside table. I couldn't find anything that I liked. Are we really ever done decorating? Probably not, so I decided to improvise.
I had seen the suitcase table on Pintrest some time ago, but couldn't find just the right suitcase. You see, so many of the vintage bags seem to be rather feminine. Definitely not the masculine look I was searching for. Then one day it hit me.....
I had planted this cool metal suitcase earlier in the spring.
It was great out on the deck for the summer. You can read about how I did it on my original blog post here.
But, I had recently thrown out the annuals since the frost got them. So, I decided to re-purpose the suitcase once again.
I just happened to have some old red wooden legs sitting in the garage that I picked out of the trash heap. They were easy to screw onto the metal suitcase. It is a bit rough inside, so I don't think he will be using it for extra storage anytime soon. That's okay, it works great as a table.
I added a few family mementos like some aviator glasses, my father's pilot log, family photos, and one of those cool little candles that changes colors when you light it (it is amazing, it really works!). The metal works great with the funky pendant light I got from Target, and I love the touches of red in the bedding, lamps and soccer ball. It's very chic, in a Howard Hughes kind of way, which is perfect since my son's goal in life is to be a pilot. I am still working on a few other things in this room, more to come!
