Happy New Year! Hard to believe 2013 is here. I feel like there was much I learned in 2012, and much left undone. For example, I never did figure out how to post a cool year end review like so many other bloggers, and if I could fathom how to design blog buttons the world would be a better place. Oh, well. With the New Year we have a chance for a fresh start. Fresh as in "do over". What would you like to "do over" from the last year? I don't have regrets, but choose to look ahead and create New Year Goals for myself rather than resolutions that I can't seem to keep.
So, here are my goals for this month ( I chose to do a month at a time, planning a year out is too much for me):
1. Blog for 31 Days
2. Focus on Health. The holiday indulgences are gone. I hope to eat gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, and sugar free for at least 31 Days. I will have lots of recipes to share as well as some at Home DIY Spa tips you won't want to miss!
3. Free the Mind. Escaping to a tropical beach sounds great this time of year, but it's not going to happen on our limited budget. Finding ways to capture the mind and "escape" reality for a short time is big on my list. One of my favorite ways to escape is to read a good book by the fire, I have lots of great titles to recommend! We even have a few movies titles to go along with the books that are not to miss. What a great way to spend the winter being cozy at home?
4.Cleanse the Home. I have said I am not good at cleaning or organizing. However, I have had a lot of response from my DIY cleaning recipes, I have more recipes to share along with a few tips on de-cluttering your home. Having less stuff is incredibly liberating. I will show you how my Less is More philosophy can give you a more peaceful, restful home.
5. Catch up on projects. I constantly have projects going around the house. Occasionally, I even finish them. My goal for the month is to finish what I have started, so come February I can start MORE projects. I love DIY!
Let's get started!
We have been slightly under the weather at our house, the flu came to visit for the holidays. Not fun! However, I am determined to make the best of it.
It's a good thing that I happen to have all the ingredients for our special Cleansing Broth. This recipe comes to us from our homeopathic physician in sunny, southern California. It is simple and delicious. Probably not something you will be serving as dinner to your friends, but it does the trick to neutralize your body into wellness. Did you know that viruses and germs cannot live in a neutral environment? Have a cup or two of this alkaline broth in between meals of brown rice and veggies for 2-3 days. You'll be feeling better, I promise.
Preferably these items should all be raw and fresh. Do use what you have. Simple ingredient list: 1/2 of a cabbage (I love the red cabbage), 1 onion, 1 beet (I used a canned), 2 potatoes, 2 carrots, 2 celery stalks, 2 cloves chopped garlic, and a handful of chopped parsley (mine was dried).
Peel the potatoes. Leave peelings on the carrots and raw beets for extra nutrition. Coarsely chop all ingredients into 1" pieces. Place them in a large stock pot. Add the garlic and parsley, cover with water.
The colors are so beautiful. Simmer over medium heat 10-15 minutes until veggies are tender enough to be pierced with a fork. You can add a small amount of Miso or Bragg's Liquid Amino's for additional flavoring.
It is perfectly except-able to eat the veggies along with the broth, but I prefer just the broth. I love the beautiful purple color. Bottoms up!
Tune in tomorrow for more 31 Days of Cleansing!
