How are you doing with your cleansing today? I have been on the broth for a couple days, definitely feeling better today. Here on Day 3 of my Cleansing series, it's back to the projects! You see I have a new toy that I got for Christmas. I have been dying to use it.
I can't tell you when it was that I last got a new toy. Especially a toy like this one. This is the Singer 160, a vintage style, black lacquer machine. I learned to sew on a similar model, an old black Singer with a treadle. Remember those? No, I am not really THAT old. Okay, maybe I am. This new model is the Cadillac of sewing machines.
It has a bunch of different embroidery stitches and a digital dial for the stitch length. It also has a cool LED light, and a motor that purrs like a pussy cat. Of course, I HAD to try it out.
I had some scraps of felted red wool. I decided to play with the leaf embroidery.
I stitched row upon row, about 1/2" apart. It was such fun. I love new toys.
Then I tried out the button hole attachment, and added two pieces of overlapping wool, right sides together, to the back. One has button holes, the other will have the buttons. Then I stitched around the edge.
After stitching, I trimmed the corners at an angle, and turned it right side out.
This is what it looks like on the back, with the buttons. I just happened to have a little ceramic dish that it fit in.
This is the front. Guess what it's for?
I love oatmeal baths in the winter time. They are wonderful to sooth dry skin. In our cold climate, you just can't get enough of them this time of year. I filled my "loofah" with 1/2 raw oatmeal and 1 tablespoon dried lavender. It smells heavenly.
When you use your loofah in the bath, the oatmeal breaks down and softens your bath water which the lavender scents. When you are done with your bath, simply turn the loofah inside out, and throw away the contents. The wool may be washed and dried, then filled again with more oatmeal and any herbs that you like. Who said bathing was boring?
Time for a nice long soak!
