Welcome back to Gifts Wrapped in Glass!
Today's Gift is Homemade Muesli!
This is my last post in this series, at least for now! It's been so much fun working with all these jars, I may come back and do some more at a later date! It's time to move on to other great holiday ideas.
You are going to love what I have in store for you, be sure and stop back again!
Remember that yummy looking Muslei in my last post? It's easy to make and very healthy. You can serve it hot or cold, I love it on top of Homemade Yogurt. The Muesli in this photo, I actually purchased before I remembered that I used to made my own version. I decided I liked mine better because it's far more inexpensive!
Muslei is slightly different than granola. Granola generally has more fat and flavorings, and is slow roasted in the oven until it's crisp. Muslei consists of raw grains. From everything I have read on this subject, raw is healthier. If you prefer granola, here's my favorite Granola recipe.
Muesli can be made of any number of grain combinations, but here's my version of the mix:
(Makes 16 Servings)
1 cup Steel Cut Scotch Oats
1 cup dried Hominy Corn
1 cup Quinoa
1 cup Spelt Berries
1 cup Barley
1 cup Wheat Berries
1 cup Sesame seeds
1 cup Chia or Flax seeds
Ground Cinnamon
Salt
Raisins or Craisins
Brown Sugar, Honey, or Maple Syrup
Milk, Almond Milk or Cream
Place the ingredients except sesame and chia seeds in a food processor and pulse them for a few minutes to cut them up into little pieces. Combine them with the remaining seeds.
This mix will keep well stored in an air tight Mason Jar with lid for up to 6 months. Serve with milk and fruit or cook using the following method:
Soak 1 cup of Muesli overnight for the best results. Bring 4 cups water, milk or apple juice to a boil over medium-high heat. Add salt. Stir in one cup of Muesli, cinnamon and raisins as desired. Reduce heat, cook until tender about 10 minutes. Sweeten with brown sugar or other sweetener to taste. Add a bit of butter, milk or cream for a delicious breakfast.

I do not have one, single empty jar left.
I figured I have filled more than 15 dozen jars since I began this series. I have used all shapes, sizes and colors of Masons.
That's more than 180 Jars!
My shelves are bursting.
My jars are completely full (a few I even filled more than once).
My holiday shopping is nearly done (Jars all around!).
Did I mention, I do not have space for even one more jar?
I found these tall jars at a thrift store. They were big and clear, and looked like great Muesli Storing Jars.
I had to give them some pretty labels adhered to some craft paper. A bit of Washi Tape holds them in place on the jar.
There you have it, jar number 181!
I will have a Wrap Up of Gifts in Glass here tomorrow, so be sure and stop back. Meanwhile, I have been privileged to belong to a very talented group of bloggers that are getting together for this fantastic holiday giveaway!
