Gifts Wrapped in Glass: Day 28

Welcome back to Gifts Wrapped in Glass! I have worked really hard to find different and unusual gifts for your jars. Today's Gift is a bit more sophisticated…..

Orange Cranberry Marmalade

I absolutely love orange marmalade. When I was a child my favorite stories were of Paddington the Bear and his exploits in London. His favorite food was orange marmalade.

But we can't live in our childhood forever can we?

In the movie Gosford Park, actress Maggie Smith portrays a wealthy woman of nobility. She looks down her nose at everything, especially the "store bought marmalade"served to her by the house maid.

It's the best part in the whole film.

Yesterday Orange Marmalade grew up into Orange Cranberry Marmalade.

A bit more sophisticated and special. Perfect for gift giving.

Here's the ingredients:

2 lbs. seedless oranges, thinly sliced
6 cups sugar
2 cups orange juice
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup finely chopped cranberries

Slice the oranges thinly on a mandolin. This is a rather messy job.

Add the oranges to 8 cups of water, orange and lemon juices in a stock pot. Boil for 15 minutes.

Measure the liquid, add 1 cup sugar for every 1 cup of juice.

Boil 10 minutes more stirring occasionally.

Add the chopped cranberries and cook until thick, about another 10 minutes. Fill sterilized canning jars, wipe threads clean, add bands and lids.

Process for 10 minutes in a boiling water canner.

Adapted from William Sonoma's "Art of Preserving" Cookbook.

I added some sophisticated black and white labels and black bows to my jars. I love black and white with the red. It's such a yummy color combination.

My old rhinestone jewelry makes the ribbon a bit more festive. This piece is an earring that I pierced through the ribbon to hold it in place.

Who says canning jars can't have Bling? A beautiful black broach and some silver beads make this jar pop.

Another earring and a rhinestone pendant complete the jars.

Homemade Orange Cranberry Marmalade….
I think even Maggie would approve.
