Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas House Tour 2013

I have been decorating while trapped at home during a blizzard. There is more snow on the way. What a great time to curl up with some cocoa and take a home tour where it's cozy and warm!

Here we go:

The tour starts in the dining room where we have our Advent calendar I made from treat bags via the Dollar Store.

The little white tree sports my favorite chicken ornament.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
A Chicken in a little white tree…. are you singing yet?

I am loving black, white and red this season.

On to the living room! I started out with the Greeting Card Holder Frame, and some vintage skis.

Then I did a 180 and decided that the felt stockings were SOOOOO LAST YEAR, so I bought some new ones at the thrift store.

So, now the mantel looks like this. I like the blue and red tones in these Lands End stockings better. It helps draw the rest of the room together.

I love poinsettias. They are one of my favorite things. Do you know the Legend of the Poinsettia?  You can read about it here.

I promised my boy we could have a polar bear display, hence the Polar Bear Vignette.

THE BEST compliment a mom can get is "It's just perfect Mom."

It makes me melt.

The Master bedroom underwent a massive transformation this week. Find out the secret to my removable stripes here. (Pssssst, it's contact paper!)

The twig wreath is our touch of Christmas in this room, sprayed gold it looks great with a mirror hot glued to the back of it.

The burlap pillows were one of my projects from last season.

On to the Man Cave! This room sports "new to us" furniture and all things of men.

This includes the Man Cave glowing clock on the gallery wall.

Not to mention Chuck Norris. Even he got an update for the holidays. I am waiting to see which child notices the bow in his hair first.

No, he is not a relative.

The gallery wall also is the home of my new favorite black vintage typewriter. One of my boys asked what a typewriter was the other day and when I saw this in an antique shop, I knew it was just the thing to educate him.

The tree is one that my mother found in IN THE BOX on the curb. I am still amazed at what people will throw away.

The ornaments are a random hodgepodge of wooden letters, candy canes, vintage glass balls and hand made treasures.

Ornaments that a mother treasures and are more valuable than gold.

The massive coffee table is nearly 8 feet long and belonged to my Grandfather. He brought it home from the South Pacific after WWII. It's made of monkey pod wood and weighs about 300 pounds.

It's the perfect place to sit, play games and do puzzles while watching TV.

One of my friends made this beautiful wooden tray. She finished the back, painted the front with chalk paint and added silver handles. Brilliant!

 I can't wait to use it to serve cheese and wine during the holidays. I also made the Hurricane Candle Holders. 

I love how the tray works on the big table.

The only touch of Mom in this room is the trophy cup and mercury ornaments in the back.

The trophy cup is stamped "Paris" and I just love it. The big mercury balls were a gift from my former employer, the red balls came from a thrift store.

I love them in and around the cloches that have cheap battery operated lights in them. Also from the Dollar Store.

You would be amazed how long those batteries last.

Next stop, is the Boys Lounge.

They loved my Stag Head  knock off. Literally, knocked off.

A simple display of Christmas Wine Bottles and ornaments adds some color to this room.
