I was packing some boxes today, getting ready for our pending move at the end of the month, when I came across my fondue pot. I instantly had memories of our winter ritual of Friday night pizza, fondue and movies. Nothing is better on a cold winter night. Even though it's hot and humid outside, we decided to take a break from our work and resurrect the fondue for a morning snack.
All we needed was Nutella, cream (I used coffee creamer just because that's what I had on hand, you can also use heavy cream), and fruit. We used canned chunk pineapple, mandarin oranges, and fresh strawberries.
I sped things up by melting 2 Tablespoons of the Nutella with one cup of the cream in my double boiler. Normally I would put it in the fondue pot to melt, but this little itty, bitty candle is quite slow to melt things.
See? Have I mentioned that I am impatient? I use it more for keeping things warm than to actually melt anything. It's much faster in the double boiler.
I just stirred and stirred the Nutella and cream for about 5 minutes. Then I poured it into the fondue pot to keep warm.
That's it. You use the forks to dip the fruit into the chocolate. It's delicious. Snack time was never this beautiful or fun before! My friend gave me this fondue pot, but you can buy them at thrift stores for a song, or at Walmart and Target. They are really great for entertaining. Don't think fondue is hip? There's a new restaurant in town, it's called the Melting Pot. Guess what they serve? Fondue, fondue and more fondue. That's ALL they serve. It's very chic, people love it. Sounds like a date night for us!
I recently discovered a great website for all things fondue, not only do they have recipes, but they also sell pots and equipment:

If I was serving this in the evening I think I would add a bit of liquor, perhaps some Kahlua or brandy. The sky is the limit!
Off to clean the carpets next.........
