The tree is up. At least one of the trees is up. This is the Man Cave Tree. Our basement recreation room is the place of men. It has a big screen TV, X-Box, stereo system, and all the fixings. It also has large comfy sofas and chairs arranged for optimal TV viewing, and yelling at the football games. Their dream is to add a refridge and a pizza oven. Images of Chuck Norris line the walls. It's really quite fascinating. How many people have Chuck Norris on their rec room wall?
This is not my domain. I have done very little decorating down stairs, as my male family members have distinctly told me this is a "Mom-free Zone". I am okay with that. The less I have on my plate the better. I do keep pointing out however, that the floral couches are not very becoming to the male ego. They remain unchanged. We did come to the agreement that this blue spruce Christmas tree would be best in the Man Cave (it is a thorny thing by the way).
Our family tradition is to have one tree with the delicate glass ornaments, traditionally in the formal living room, which is considered "the grown-up tree". Then, we also like to have one with the non-breakables, the "kids tree", in a more open space. Our Man Cave tree has a Frozen Tundra theme, since we live in the great white north, and we have collected snowmen, polar bears, reindeer and snow flakes for quite some time.
We mix these together with treasured ornaments of the past that the kids have made through the years. I love these little things, although my kids claim they are too old for them now. How can you be too old for glue and glitter? It's like being un-American. Glue and glitter are some of my favorite things, and I am never going to give them up. Not ever.
The rest of the Man Cave decor is un-decorated. I am planning on spending some serious time down here this winter to get things in shape. More to come!
