Mint is very refreshing on your skin. I love the smell of it. I usually have mint growing in my garden and use it during the warmer months for all sorts of things. Recently, I decided to try it as an exfoliant.
There are a number types of exfoliants on the market today. The only problem is that many of them contain ground seed kernels such as apricot or even sand that can actually make small rips in your skin. How gross is that? You can make your own exfoliant by using simple supplies like dry rice or other firm grain, plain yogurt, dried mint, peppermint, wintergreen essential oil and ginger.
I chopped up one cup of rice in my Ninja until it was in small pieces. This is a great way to use up small amounts of leftover rice that are lurking in your kitchen cabinets.
I added a cup of plain yogurt (which is fabulous in the bath for moisturizing your skin), a table spoon of dried mint, a tablespoon of grated ginger root, and a few drops of wintergreen and peppermint essential oils. If you are sensitive to dairy products try soy or goat yogurt instead of the regular variety.
Inhale deeply, ahhhhh! Have you ever smelled wintergreen? It reminds me of Wrigley's gum. I used to love that stuff.
Try this combo in the bath or shower with a loofah, synthetic scrubby, or pumice stone (for rough spots like heels of feet or elbows). You could even use a soft bristled brush, or bath mitt. Scrubbing was never this much fun before!
