Chicken Confusion

The other day we decided to move the chicken coop to a new location in the yard. This is not unusual since it is a MOBILE coop.

The only thing is, I guess we forgot to tell the chickens it was a MOBILE coop, because when we moved it, they were very confused.

They kept going back to the spot where it used to be and would stop and look at me with their beady little eyes.

At first, they were content to wander over to the garden and eat bugs.

Dumpling even showed me her best side for a photo. Then she decided that my red toe nail polish looked like something she would like to eat. Who knew chickens loved red so much?

As dusk began to fall, the General was just mighty annoyed with me. This is one ticked off chicken, you can tell by her expression she is not happy.

How DARE we move her coop?

You see, they have this evening ritual where they stroll through the garden eating as they go. Then just before dusk the General gives the call to preen. It's not a clucking, more of a crowing.

"Come on you girls, time to get ready for bed!"

Then they all stop what ever they are doing and preen.

The next call is the round up. The General calls to them again, even more demanding than before. Then they all march into the coop for the night.

That is if they can find the coop.

And if they can't find the coop, well then there is hell to pay. They decided it must be all my fault, and chased me about the yard. Seriously chased me!

That's the reason these pictures are blurry. Don't judge me, you have never tried to take decent pictures when being attacked by an angry mob of coop-less chickens at dusk.

Eventually 3 of them found the coop and made it inside. The other two just didn't get it. I had to pick them up and put them inside the coop for the night. The poor baby's just wandered around it, crying for mamma. How could I be so cruel?

In case you are wondering, "Where did you put the coop?" We moved it over underneath the cross on the shed. I just thought it would work better over here.

You know, bless thy chickens with lots of eggs. My boys laughed too. What's wrong with that? Don't you all have crosses above your chicken coops?

Our friend gave us this beautiful metal cross, and I finally found the perfect spot for it. I hung it on top of an old screen window on the side of the tool shed. It looks more important that way.

We are still praying for eggs daily, but I don't think we will be moving the coop again anytime soon.
